Quote of the Month

“If you have an apple and I have an apple, and we exchange these apples, then you and I will still have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea, and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.”
- George Bernard Shaw

Time Tactics - How to Beat Jet Lag

Your eyes are bloodshot, your head hurts, and you are incapable of paying attention to your surroundings. What is causing this mental fog that stifles your concentration and drowns your reasoning? If you are an experienced airline traveler, these symptoms are easily expressed by two simple words: Jet lag.

In order to combat the disorder that affects such a large portion of travelers and jet setters, use the following 5 attention and timesaving tactics:

  1. During the weeks before your trip, help your body adjust to the new time zone by adjusting your bedtime before your trip. a) For Westbound flights: wake up one hour later each day if possible. b) For Eastbound flights: wake up one hour earlier each day.

  2. If possible, plan your arrival date several days in advance of important meetings.

  3. Ensure proper hydration and nutrition (high protein meals) prior to and during your trip.

  4. Set your watch to the destination time and modify your activities to mimic those you will experience in your intended time zone.

  5. Avoid diuretics like alcohol and caffeine during the flight: these beverages dehydrate your body and lengthen recovery time.

CEO Profile -The Most Effective CEOs Thriving in Today's Workplace

Dmitry Shapiro, CEO
www.veoh.com

By Emily Nesselroad

Dmitry Shapiro is a recognized thought leader and visionary in electronic communications, peer-2-peer networking, online community, and computer security. Having worked with and studied hundreds of companies, and after meeting dozens of CEO's, we found both Dmitry and his company to be refreshing, insightful, and revolutionary. Veoh will change the world.

EN: How did you start Veoh - what was your inspiration for the company?

DS: Veoh has been an idea mulling around in my mind for quite some time. I have always felt a great desire to make an impact in the media space, as I firmly believe that media, specifically television, is the most powerful communications medium of all time. Because of this, I believe that such a powerful medium should not be under the stringent control of a limited number of people (Television Networks, Cable/ Satellite companies, etc.) Veoh was built to democratize television broadcasting, allowing anyone in the world with a computer and an Internet connection to become a television broadcaster. Veoh does for television what the World Wide Web did for print publishing; just as profoundly, Veoh will change everything in our lives, from entertainment to education to politics.

EN: As you see it, how does Veoh fit into the time-deficient workplace?

DS: Veoh is perhaps a poster child for it. We are a company of many simultaneous projects, instant messaging, email, blackberries, treos, wikis, blogs, etc.

Time Saving Purchases of the Month

Got Germs?

According to the FAA, over 600 million travelers pass through American airports annually. While your flight may arrive on time, the germs you will be exposed to may cause many other delays in your life.

Who has the time to spend on getting sick? Are you ready to try something that really works? Before your next trip, pick up a package of Airborne. You simply drop a fizzy orange or lemon-lime flavored tablet into a glass of water and drink. Airborne contains a combination of seven herbs, a unique formulation of amino acids, anti-oxidants and electrolytes. Airborne also contains a natural ginger component that helps fight nausea.

Traffic, gridlock, commuting -- all synonymous with sheer dread. On average, people who live in high-traffic areas can spend 136 hours a year in slow or stopped traffic. Forward to a Friend

“If we are to live, then shall we not live where we want to live? For the earth is almost as vast as our dreams.

If we are to live well, then shall we not live where life, work and passion all intersect joyously? And in selecting a place to live, shall we not seek out and then move to the place where the sun shines in the soul of our desires?”
-Mitch Thrower
